Family Medicine

Dr. Sumpter is a native of eastern Kentucky, calling the Appalachian Mountains his home for most of his life. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky where he majored in Computer Science. After a 5-year career in software engineering, Dr. Sumpter decided to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a physician. He attended the University of Pikeville School of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated in 2016. He is a board-certified family physician, completing residency training with ETSU Family Physicians of Bristol in 2019, at which time he served as Chief Resident. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Sumpter joined Mountain Region Family Medicine in 2019.

Dr. Sumpter and his wife are parents to two girls. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with family, serving at the local Christian church where he and his wife attend, and spending time outdoors.
