Richard Hess, PharmD, CDCES, BC-ADM, BCACP

Clinical Pharmacist

Dr. Rick Hess is Associate Professor with Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University. He moved to Johnson City, TN from Atlanta to accept a shared faculty position and started with SoFHA in August 2007. He splits his time with the College of Pharmacy and SoFHA where he works collaboratively with providers to help manage patients with diabetes. He provides individualized diabetes education appointments through an accredited program by the American Diabetes Association. He is also an expert on diabetes technology and provides specialized services including continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pump training/management and support. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in 1998 and completed a community practice PGY-1 residency at Mercer University in Atlanta with a focus on diabetes care. Dr. Hess is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and also holds board certifications in Advanced Diabetes Management and Ambulatory Care Pharmacy. When away from work, Dr. Hess enjoys time with his family and friends, exercising, reading, playing guitar and serving at his church.
