Health & Wellness Weight Management Is More Than Medication by SOFHA Friday, Jun 26, 2026 Weight Management Is More Than Medication: How SOFHA Supports Healthy, Lasting Change For many people, weight loss can feel frustrating, confusing, and overwhelming. You may have tried diets, exercise plans, apps, or quick-fix programs without seeing the long-term results you hoped for. We understand that weight management is not one-size-fits-all. It is personal and often requires medical guidance, support, and a plan that fits your body, health, and goals. That is why State of Franklin Healthcare Associates is proud to offer a medically supervised Weight Management Program designed to help established SOFHA patients work toward sustainable weight loss and improved overall health. While GLP-1 therapies have become a common topic in conversations about weight loss, they are only one part of what weight management can include. Our approach goes beyond medication. The goal is to support healthy, lasting changes through personalized care, lifestyle support, nutrition guidance, medication management when appropriate, and ongoing follow-up. A Whole-Person Approach to Weight Management Healthy weight management is about more than a number on the scale. It can impact energy levels, mobility, blood pressure, blood sugar, sleep, confidence, and overall wellness. Because each patient’s needs are different, SOFHA’s Weight Management Program begins with a comprehensive, one-on-one consultation. During this visit, patients can talk through their health history, goals, challenges, and options with a member of the care team. From there, an individualized plan will be developed to help support safe and sustainable progress. This may include: Lifestyle and nutritional counseling Support for healthy eating habits Encouragement around physical activity and exercise Medical weight management consultations Medication management and titration GLP-1 therapies or other weight management medications when appropriate Side effect management and clinical support Follow-up visits to monitor progress and adjust the plan as needed GLP-1 Therapy Is One Tool, Not the Whole Plan GLP-1 medications can be helpful for some patients, but they are not the only tool used in medical weight management. Medication works best when it is part of a broader plan that also focuses on nutrition, movement, healthy habits, and long-term lifestyle changes. SOFHA’s Weight Management Program helps patients look at the bigger picture. That means supporting patients as they learn how to make realistic changes with food, activity, and daily routines while also receiving medical guidance when medication is part of their treatment plan. For patients using GLP-1 therapy or other weight management medications, ongoing support is important. The SOFHA team can help with medication adjustments, monitoring, and side effect management to help patients feel supported throughout their journey. Building Healthy Habits That Last Sustainable weight loss does not happen overnight. It often comes from small, steady changes that build over time. Eating more balanced meals, increasing movement, improving sleep, and learning how to stay consistent are all important parts of a successful weight management plan. That is why lifestyle and nutritional counseling are key parts of SOFHA’s Weight Management Program. Patients receive practical guidance designed to help them create healthier routines that can continue beyond the program itself. Instead of focusing only on short-term results, the goal is to help patients build habits that support long-term wellness. Convenient Care for Established SOFHA Patients SOFHA’s Weight Management Program is available exclusively for established SOFHA patients and is located inside Johnson City Internal Medicine. No referral is needed, but there will be direct communication between your primary care provider and the weight management team. Initial consultations are one-hour, in-person visits. Follow-up visits are focused progress checks, and routine follow-up appointments may be available through secure Telehealth video visits for added convenience. This service is self-pay, and insurance will not be billed for program visits. If medication therapy is recommended, medication costs are separate and may be covered by insurance through your preferred pharmacy or may be available through manufacturer cash-pay programs. Take the Next Step If you are an established SOFHA patient and are ready to explore a medically supervised approach to weight management, our team is here to help.
